DAY 3 - October 4, 2023

Welcome to folks who are new to the mvDenny blog. As explained previously, this blog is a brief overview of our daily activities. Ultimately we hope to produce a summary video every week, once we are actually on America's Great Loop.

We awoke early Wednesday morning to the amazing sight of the Louisville to Jefferson, Indiana Pedestrian Bridge. I've seen it in all blue and all red, but never in multiple colors.

Later that morning we saw the local rowing club practicing their craft.

As we prepared to leave Louisville, we passed the downtown skyline
with the KFC Yum Center in the foreground.

And we saw the Belle of Louisville, which raced Cincinnati's Delta Queen from 1963 until 2008.

We passed New Amsterdam, Indiana. When I stopped here years ago their claim to fame was being the smallest community in Indiana......with a population of one. What happened was that the town lost their post office and was supposed to use the post office at a neighboring community. When the census was taken an older woman refused to record her address as the new one and instead put down New Amsterdam. The census bureau never caught the mistake and recorded New Amsterdam as having a population of one. Today New Amsterdam has a stated population of thirteen, which is still an incredibly small community. But as can be seen in this photo taken along the river, they display one of the largest flags.

We took a pit stop at a beautiful and well maintained riverfront park in Brandenburg, Kentucky. Denise loved the foot bridge leading into town.

We met some very nice folks from Brandenburg who have a beautiful boat designed more for speed than our slow and steady turtle of a boat. They said they were headed up to Louisville to a restaurant, which was about 45 minutes travel time. We were in awe because we had just travel about 6 hours, downstream, to go the same distance. We gave them one of our boat cards and they wrote to us the next day with a photo taken of our boat as we were pulling away.

Today we travel 52.4 miles and anchored overnight a little east of Leavenworth, Indiana.
