DAY 13 - October 14, 2023

Today is the Hunter's Moon Festival in little city of Grand Rivers, which is next to our marina. Grand Rivers' population is listed as 382, but there are always a lot of tourist at the B&Bs and marinas. We originally planned to stay at this marina for two days, but due to the parade and festival, tonight will be our fourth night. We're planning on leaving tomorrow morning. So, Denise took advantage of the marina laundry facilities while we're still here.

The Hunter's Moon parade began with a color guard, just like parades begin back home. However, this was the first color guard I've seen that includes the Christian Flag. That's the one on the right that is white with a red cross on a blue square. A strong Christian influence is evident throughout the culture in this area.

Included below are photos I took during the parade.

The Twin Lakes Worship Center float, covered with bear skins, mounted deer heads and other animals, took home the Best Float award. I suspect a float like this in a parade in Cincinnati would probably stir up a protest.

The crowd of onlookers was pretty substantial for a community of this size. It stretched out for several block.

After the parade we took a look at the one hundred vendor booths available. Denise even bought some food storage containers to use on our boat.

Music was provided by a regional group called, The Sullivan 3 Band.

After leaving the festival we visited a local landmark called Patti's 1880 Settlement. It's kind of like a miniature version of Gatlinburg.

Denise took the picture of a peacock while I visited a goat.

We saw a bride and groom that just got married at Patti's Wedding Chapel.

Besides a restaurant, ice cream stand, clothing store, gift shop, moonshine store and several outdoor food & drink stands, Patti's also has a year round Christmas shop. The photos below were taken there.
