DAY 5 - October 6, 2023

The blog is an overview of our daily activities. Once we get to the Cumberland River and are officially on America's Great Loop, we'll try to produce a video review of each week.

Last night we were tied up at Perry Marine Service. This morning Denise got up and decided to go for a run. She met a dog that started following her, but first he left his autograph when he jumped up on her leg.

We started traveling down the river at about 9:00 this morning. I came up with a new method of tying our boat off in the lock and it appeared to work pretty well. I've always used just one dock line to hold our boat against the lock wall, but my new method uses two lines and results in a much more controlled boat during locking.

Our first stop was Troy, Indiana. Denise walked to their Dollar Store while I stayed with the boat. Pretty soon a nice gentleman from Troy, named Steve, came down to the dock to check out our boat. When Denise returned it turns out she had already seen him, and his dog, at the Dollar Store. Denise said the Troy Dollar Store was the nicest one she had ever been in.

Troy was a very nice place to stop. Many of the big cities along the river lack docks and a welcoming attitude. Troy is just the opposite with a ramp, dock, city park and easy access to supplies.

Somebody had a bad day.

Here is a video of Hanging Rock. It doesn't look like something you would see along the Ohio River.

We saw our first sailboat of the trip.

Here is a video taken inside the boat cabin while 35mph winds and whitecaps on the river pelted our boat.

Today we traveled 61.5 miles.
